Yorkville is a growing and active rural community
Yorkville, Wisconsin, is a village and mostly rural community less than a 20- minute drive from Racine. The farmland offers room and peace, but also facilitates various activities, like stargazing, going to a farm to pick fruit and visit goats and even skydiving. The area draws industry, too. Yorkville employers include Amazon, while neighboring Mount Pleasant is set to get a Microsoft data center involved in cloud computing and artificial intelligence. Riley Flannery, a manager at Apple Holler, says the “sense of community” is one of Yorkville’s appeals. “It’s not a big town by any means, but I would say it’s filled with friendly people,” he says. “It’s small enough to where you might know your neighbors’ names or the person who lives down the street.”
Housing includes upscale farmland options
Yorkville has acres of crop fields and farm buildings. Lots are spacious, with some of them easily going over 10 acres. Housing includes ranch-style homes, farmhouses and manufactured homes. The village also has upscale New Traditional and Colonial Revival homes. Costs go from $330,000 to $620,000 for many homes between 1,600 and 3,000 square feet. Homes with more square footage or acreage go from about $700,000 to $3.4 million. “Generally, properties west [of Racine] in that area are selling above market value,” says Robert Chiappetta, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty. “They’re in demand.” Several parts of Yorkville have an overall CAP Index Crime Score of 1 out of 10, below the national average of 4.
Yorkville has diverse cuisine and baked treats
Restaurants include Blue Badger Bar & Grill, which serves food out of a repurposed Airstream travel trailer at a truck stop. The local staple sources much of its food from nearby farms. Route 20 Outhouse frequently does fish fries, shows televised sporting events and has a patio with a firepit. Nearby Saffron Grill House blends Indian, Pakistani and American foods. Country Rose Bakery & café is popular for its pies and baked treats. Apple Holler grows over 40 varieties of apples and other fruits like peaches, pears and plums. The farm also runs a fast-casual restaurant and sells hard cider. Union Grove’s Piggly Wiggly is one of the nearest grocery stores.
Recreation includes nature walks, stargazing, golf and skydiving
Yorkville’s open spaces include Evans Park, a forested area with a walking trail. The park is across the street from Ives Grove Golf Links, which has a 27-hole course and a driving range. It's also not uncommon here for locals to see formations of skydivers. Skydive Midwest, usually open from April to November, serves all levels of clients from the greater Milwaukee area and beyond. “We’re the closest diving place to Chicago. We’re only an hour's drive from the city,” says Austin George, Skydive Midwest’s manager. “We also do get a lot of local people.” Clients take off from Sylvania Airport and parachute over the Yorkville area. The Racine Astronomical Society also runs the Modine Benstead Observatory on Plank Road. The domed facilities, which house 16- and 14-inch telescopes, host monthly public nights between spring and fall.
Students may attend Yorkville and Union Grove schools
Students may start at Yorkville or Union Grove elementary schools, which enroll students from 4-year-old kindergarten to eighth grade. Yorkville receives an A-minus from Niche, while Union Grove gets a B-minus. Students may finish at Union Grove High School, which gets a B-plus. Union Grove High was ranked among the Racine area’s top five high schools in 2024, according to U.S. News & World Report. Their girls basketball team made four straight sectional finals between 2022 and 2025.
Yorkville area is home to Racine County Fair
The area is home to one of Racine County’s signature events, the Racine County Fair. Over several days in July, many come to the fairgrounds on Union Grove’s outskirts for carnival rides and live shows. Activities include a petting zoo, bull riding and pig races.
Multiple highways provide commuter routes
The Belle Urban System has several bus stops in Yorkville. Wisconsin highways 11 and 20 pass through the area and go to Racine, 10 miles east. I-94 provides a commuter route to Milwaukee, more than 20 miles north. The Brew City is home to Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport. Aurora Medical Center Mount Pleasant is the nearest hospital.
Area gets snow and frigid winter days
Yorkville usually receives about 40 inches of snow annually. That amount is higher than some parts of the Milwaukee region, but far less than other parts of the state, like the Madison area.
