A pocket community with a lake

Lincoln Knolls is a small pocket neighborhood of Youngstown that features the picturesque Lake McKelvey to the northeast. Oaks and maple trees shade the winding residential streets that feature manicured lawns. "Because the area is more affordable, we see a lot of first-time buyers and investors," says 20-year Realtor Debbie Mook of Klacik Real Estate, who is also a nearby resident.

A few local staples

Several businesses and restaurants are on or near U.S. Route 422 to the south. Nicky's Pizza is a Youngstown staple and has been in the same spot, using the same recipe, run by the same family for 50 years. Papa's Bakery Cafe specializes in Puerto Rican cuisine and is locally renowned for their fresh bread, sandwiches and baked goods. Sugarpan Bakery sells custom-made cakes for every occasion. On Wednesdays and Sundays, local farmers, crafters and artisans set up at the Four Seasons Flea and Farm Market crowd. "This is very popular," Mook says. "People come from all over to shop here." Once the site of an airport, the Lincoln Knolls market has space for up to 600 vendors, and people filter in and out all year long, looking for fresh produce, vintage finds and unique crafts. In the south central area, Lincoln Knolls Plaza has a Family Dollar and other small retailers. Residents can go grocery shopping at DG Market of Save A Lot. For a larger variety of entertainment options, Lincoln Knolls residents can head downtown, where they'll find trendy bars and restaurants, as well as renowned museums such as The Butler Institute of American Art.
