Lincoln Knolls is a small pocket neighborhood of Youngstown that features the picturesque Lake McKelvey to the northeast. Oaks and maple trees shade the winding residential streets that feature manicured lawns. "Because the area is more affordable, we see a lot of first-time buyers and investors," says 20-year Realtor Debbie Mook of Klacik Real Estate, who is also a nearby resident.

Close to downtown
Downtown Youngstown is just a 3.7-mile drive, making commuting convenient for residents. Interstate 680 and Ohio Route 62 are easily accessible, and the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport is a 20-mile drive via local streets. Additionally, the area is served by several Western Reserve Transit Authority (WRTA) bus stops.
Budget-friendly houses
Most of the neighborhood homes date back to the 1950s, with a few going back even further. Architectural styles comprise Cape Cods, Colonial revival and ranch-style, and prices range from $31,000 to $178,000. In some sections, lots can be larger than one acre; however, most are around 1/8 acre, suitable for a small garden or sitting area. Most homes have either attached or detached garages. A few local staples
Several businesses and restaurants are on or near U.S. Route 422 to the south. Nicky's Pizza is a Youngstown staple and has been in the same spot, using the same recipe, run by the same family for 50 years. Papa's Bakery Cafe specializes in Puerto Rican cuisine and is locally renowned for their fresh bread, sandwiches and baked goods. Sugarpan Bakery sells custom-made cakes for every occasion. On Wednesdays and Sundays, local farmers, crafters and artisans set up at the Four Seasons Flea and Farm Market crowd. "This is very popular," Mook says. "People come from all over to shop here." Once the site of an airport, the Lincoln Knolls market has space for up to 600 vendors, and people filter in and out all year long, looking for fresh produce, vintage finds and unique crafts. In the south central area, Lincoln Knolls Plaza has a Family Dollar and other small retailers. Residents can go grocery shopping at DG Market of Save A Lot. For a larger variety of entertainment options, Lincoln Knolls residents can head downtown, where they'll find trendy bars and restaurants, as well as renowned museums such as The Butler Institute of American Art.

Green spaces for relaxing
A stream, once known as Dry Run, runs through Lincoln Park on the west side of Lincoln Knolls. The setting is a peaceful and scenic spot for locals to gather or stroll. Roosevelt Park is a community park featuring picnic pavilions, play equipment and several fields for baseball & softball. For more extensive recreational activities, locals can go to Mill Creek Park, the largest of the MetroParks' 5,000-plus acres. Spanning over 2,658 acres, the park features biking, boating, hiking, fishing and more.
