Zeeland Township offers rural living near the city of Zeeland
Zeeland Township is a rural extension of the city of Zeeland. Outside the small city, the community becomes more suburban, featuring housing developments, parks and nature trails, plus a few shops and restaurants, before branching out into the farm-filled countryside. Township residents also shop and dine in the nearby city, where they can participate in annual Zeeland traditions and attend many of the same highly rated schools.

Suburban developments and homes out in the country
The median home sale price in Zeeland Township is $430,000 compared to $369,500 in Zeeland. “There’s a lot of farmland, but for the most part, it’s more suburban where most people live,” says Bradley Wisk, a Realtor with Keller Williams Harbortown who grew up in the region. Most people live in housing developments on the west side of the township, closer to Zeeland. Many of them feature New Traditional houses and townhouse-style condominiums. A few subdivisions are built in the countryside, while some homes are more secluded on acres of land, surrounded by farms.

Quality education through Zeeland Public Schools
Of the five elementary schools that serve Zeeland Township, students may attend Lincoln Elementary, which receives an A-minus grade from Niche. They’ll go on to Cityside Middle School and Zeeland East High School, both also rated A-minus. Zeeland East is on the same campus as Zeeland West, which leads to a friendly sports rivalry between the Chix (East) and the Dux (West) as they share a football stadium and other athletic facilities.

Rural shops and restaurants with more options in downtown Zeeland
American Char, a barbecue restaurant near a small pocket of homes out in the country, is one of a few restaurants in the township. Moo-ville is in a similar location, selling ice cream in the same building as the Vriesland Country Store. Across the street, the Farmers Co-Op Elevator Company operates a feed mill facility with an animal feed store. Downtown Zeeland has several local shops and restaurants. Public is a local favorite for its trendy vibe and gourmet American food. Frank’s Restaurant offers an old-fashioned diner atmosphere, and Tripleroot Brewery serves artisan flatbread and craft beer while frequently hosting live music. For everyday shopping needs, there’s a Family Fare Supermarket in Zeeland, and Holland Township has dozens of big-box retailers, about 10 miles away.

Memorial Day Parade and other events in Zeeland
Locals head to downtown Zeeland to attend community events such as the annual Memorial Day Parade. “Kids love the parade. People in the community will literally drive tractors down Main Street and throw out candy,” Wisk says. Every Monday in July, the Zeelmania street fair features a different theme each night. On Tuesdays in July, locals head to Lawrence Street Park for the Soundz of Summer concert series. Several other events are held throughout the year, including Pumpkinfest and the Zeeland Turkey Trot 8K in fall and a Christmas parade and tree lighting ceremony in winter.
25 miles to Grand Rapids and 15 miles to Lake Michigan
Commuters hop on Interstate 196 to drive 25 miles to Grand Rapids, about 25 miles away. Grand Rapids is home to Gerald R. Ford International Airport. It’s also about a 15-mile drive to the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan. MAX Transit buses operate in the city of Zeeland, but not in the township.
