Artsy, walkable downtown, diverse community
An art-loving, multicultural melting pot on the eastern side of Long Island, Westbury draws residents in with its blend of diversity, creative tendencies and convenience in a suburban setting. “To me, one of the main attractions of Westbury is its diversity,” says Wendy Liotti, an associate broker and team leader of the Rowan Team of Compass who has lived in Westbury for over 40 years and serves as a board member of Westbury’s Chamber of Commerce. “Westbury is a very diverse community, it welcomes and encourages diverse cultures.” That’s not the only reason Westbury’s little downtown has become so popular, though. “The village is very, very supportive of business and the arts, and there’s been a lot of revitalization in Westbury,” Liotti says. “A couple of years ago, Westbury received a $10 million grant, and that’s gone toward revitalizing the downtown area. We have new sidewalks, new facades and new crossing areas. Westbury is really becoming a destination. We’ve nicknamed Westbury, ‘a community for all seasons,’ and that kind of describes its feeling and ambiance.”
Downtown Westbury has a very walkable downtown with many local shops and eateries.

Art exhibits, Flagstar at Westbury Music Fair
The arts play a big role in the community, which often comes together through events hosted by Westbury Arts. “We have concerts and art exhibits,” says Liotti, who is also on the board of directors for the organization. “Part of our mission is to unify the community through the arts.” Flagstar at Westbury Music Fair hosts frequent performances by musicians and comedians. “It could be anything,” says Damien Coleman, the broker and owner of DAC Properties Corp who has over 25 years of experience selling homes. “Barbara Streisand, Kevin Hart, different celebrities. Pretty much everybody’s been there performing. It’s like a baby Radio City Music Hall.”
Westbury Arts brings art and culture together to instill a sense of pride to Westbury.

Local restaurants and shops along Post Avenue
Westbury’s downtown is loaded with local restaurants, offering a variety of cuisines — and according to Liotti, new restaurants are always opening up. Coleman agrees that it’s possible to find nearly any type of food right in town. “You may have a pizza parlor, a Dominican restaurant, a Creole restaurant, Mexican, Spanish, Jamaican, Columbian,” he says. “So there’s a lot.” Toskana Pizzeria Restaurant is a go-to for pizza and Italian classics, Punta Cana Dominican Grill is known for its empanadas and Little Mexico has great margaritas. Nana’s Ice Cream and Coffee House serves everything from coffee to bubble tea alongside towering, cookie-topped sundaes. The Space at Westbury offers smaller concerts right in town. Local businesses, from jewelry and flower shops to thrift stores, also line Westbury’s streets. Jim’s Apple Farm offers fresh fresh produce and Bravo Supermarkets provides an easy place to grab groceries within the village, but many major stores sit just over a mile away. “We have a Whole Foods, a Trader Joe’s, a Costco, a Walmart, Marshalls, Total Wine,” Liotti says. Major shopping centers like Roosevelt Field and Samanea Mall are located 2 miles or less away.

Fixer-uppers starting at $500,000
Cape Cods and colonials are often stretched along Westbury’s tree-lined streets, but there are also plenty of split-levels and ranch-style homes. The residential streets here tend to be wide, and while some have sidewalks, others don’t. Four-bedroom fixer-uppers typically start out at around $500,000 and more updated homes typically cost between $700,000 and $1.3 million.
Some homes in Westbury start at as little as $500,000.

Healthcare help at Westbury High
Most of the children in the village are served by the Westbury Union Free School District, which has a C-plus from Niche. Children can attend Dryden Street Elementary School, which has a C-plus, for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten before attending one of three schools like Drexel Avenue Elementary School, which has a C. Children then move on to Westbury Middle School, which has a C-minus, before finishing their education at Westbury High School. The high school, which earns a B-minus on Niche, has a range of sports and clubs that students can get involved in, including robotics, yearbook and LGBTQ alliance clubs. The school also runs a health center program where students can receive primary, dental and mental health care with no out-of-pocket costs or co-pays, even if they don’t have health insurance. The program also helps parents or students enroll in a health care plan if needed. A portion of the village’s westernmost portion is served by the Carle Place Union Free School District, which has an A-minus from Niche.

Accessibility at Charles J. Fuschillo Park
Parents often take their children to play on Westbury Community Center Park’s playground or head to the nearby Charles J. Fuschillo Park to play baseball, basketball or tennis. The park finished renovations in 2023, giving it a splash pad and updating its play equipment to make it the first accessible playground for disabled children in the Town of North Hempstead. Westbury also edges right up against Eisenhower Park. “A lot of houses surround the park and you can jog and do other activities there,” Coleman says. At 930 acres, it features a popular dog park, a public swimming pool, playgrounds and athletic spaces, including a golf course and a brand-new cricket stadium that hosted the 2024 Cricket World Cup.
Charles J. Fuschillo Park has a great playground which is also handicap accessible.

Refreshed LIRR station, junction of major highways
The Long Island Rail Road’s Westbury Station was recently remodeled as part of the village’s many improvements. From there, the train takes commuters to New York City in about 45 minutes. A few express trains stop at the station, cutting the commute to 30 minutes. “It’s very, very convenient and accessible,” Liotti says. Westbury is also located at a junction of major highways, providing easy access to Northern State Parkway, Jericho Turnpike, Meadowbrook State Parkway and Wantagh State Parkway. Proximity to these highways, especially Northern State Parkway, comes with traffic noise.

I lived here all my life! NO matter where I go, I will always represent Westbury, NY! It is pretty much like a family because not many people has moved. I still have the same friendships for over a decade.

I like Westbury because it's quiet here a lot doesn't really happen and the schools are pretty decent people don't get bullied they are able to be free but kids will be kids and some changes are the school is over populated and the lunch is pretty bad but overall its a pretty nice town.
