In the heart of South Los Angeles is Green Meadows, an urban neighborhood made up primarily of single-family homes and apartment complexes. Interstate 110 sits parallel to this area and offers commuters convenient access to Downtown Los Angeles, situated less than a 9-mile drive away. Residents can also use the I-110 to travel south towards the California coastline. Residents can find a number of local shops and dining options along Avalon Boulevard, which runs vertically through the middle of the neighborhood.

Spanish-inspired architecture

According to Scatliffe, relative affordability is one of the biggest draws of this neighborhood and attracts a lot of first-time home buyers. Common home styles in this area include a number of ranch-style residences and bungalows featuring Spanish-influenced architecture, such as earth-tone stucco facades and arched entryways. There are also a number of Pueblo Revival dwellings in this neighborhood, which often display flat roofs and rounded concrete exteriors. Homes sit on numbered grid-style streets and have a median price of $575,000. Green Meadows is also home to Avalon Gardens, one of Los Angeles’ oldest housing projects.

Specialized programs offered at John C. Fremont High School

There are numerous educational resources for students in this neighborhood. Within LAUSD, 93rd Street STEAM Academy is a C-rated elementary-level school with a magnet center and a dual language focus in Spanish. Green Dot Public Schools is a non-profit organization of charter schools in the area, and the neighborhood’s Alaine LeRoy Locke College Prep Academy is one of them. Indoor and outdoor activities at Green Meadows Recreation Center

At the Green Meadows Recreation Center, residents can find a number of athletic facilities, including an indoor basketball court, a lighted baseball diamond, tennis courts, the Green Meadows Swimming Pool and an indoor gym. Also in the neighborhood is Jacaranda Park, a gated park featuring a playground, picnic area, basketball half-courts and jogging trails.
