Historic neighborhood close to Kentucky’s largest city
Close to Louisville, Germantown retains the iconography of its past while offering its residents local flair in the form of restaurants, shops and a 150-year history dating to butcher shops, brickyards and ice houses founded by German immigrants. “This area is referred to as a ‘big, small town,’” says Steve Minor, a Realtor for RE/MAX Properties East. “We share a lot of cultural activities that might not occur in other cities of this size. There’s the orchestra, the ballet and the Actors Theatre in downtown Louisville.” The nationally-known theater is less than 15 minutes away from Germantown, emblematic of just how close the neighborhood is to the bustling downtown area of Kentucky’s largest city.

Rows of shotgun homes are commonplace within Germantown and are among the most popular architectural styles there. Bungalows and camelbacks can also be found along its streets, some of those roads lined with sidewalks leading to inclined front yards and small steps rising to the front walk. Prices typically range from around $150,000 to $350,000, averaging around $250,000 with some going for north of $400,000. A large draw to the area are college students. “It’s close to the University of Louisville,” Minor says. “The college is a few miles to the west.
