Parkwood, a small midcentury development on the south side of Madera, has much to recommend beneath the surface. “For some Maderans, Parkwood does not have a positive connotation,” says Realtor Alex Salazar, Team Leader and Associate with RE/Max Gold, who has over 20 years of experience in the area. “However, the nice thing about it is that there are six schools that serve the immediate area. It’s also very convenient. It’s 5 minutes to the freeway, into town, or to the hospital. It’s not far from Fresno, and even though the homes are older, they’re priced well.” This convenience helps to make Parkwood worth a look for prospective Central Valley homebuyers. Housing stock in Parkwood reflects the post-war sensibilities of Madera’s working class at the time of construction. “Most homes there were built in the 1950s and 1960s, although construction continued into the early 2000s,” Salazar says. “The style isn’t midcentury modern.
