Why Live in Mather

The story of the Mather Airport neighborhood begins in 1918 when the U.S. Army started recruiting cadets to join a new flying school east of Sacramento. The area earned its namesake after fallen pilot and Second Lieutenant Carl Spencer Mather. Today, the neighborhood of Mather includes a public airport, over 1,200 newly built residential homes, and an 18-hole golf course spread across a large plot of land. The former military hospital has been converted into a VA outpatient center, which serves over 1,300 veterans every year and is the neighborhood’s largest employer. The residential area is a tightly planned and well-kept neighborhood, looked after by a homeowners association that is known by locals for being meticulous. As a result, the town has achieved a polished look and additionally provides residents access to the highly rated Folsom-Cordova Unified school district. Rustic Spanish Revival houses line the streets of Mather. Eclectic designs feature some Colonial-style window ornaments, along with classic roasted tile roofs. Some of the houses feature eye-catching dark chocolate accents that add a touch of contemporary flavor to an otherwise traditional design. American flags
