Suburban streets woven through the university
Deeply entwined with the University of Miami, Upper Riviera promises a homey residential community amid the energy of the campus. Spanish Colonial Revival villas, Greek Revival estates and traditional ranch-style homes populate this area north of campus, lawns peppered with palm ferns and shaded from the Florida sun by trees draped with Spanish moss. Florida sunshine sparkles off the canals that cut through the neighborhood, and the university energy pulses through the community. “There’s a lot of stuff that happens right there,” says Belinda Sime, Associate at Sime Realty Corporation and life-long area resident. “It’s a very central, good area.” Though the University of Miami does occupy much of the area, locals don’t need to be students to enjoy strolling the scenic suburban streets.

Right in the mix of Miami
“There are a few old mansions, but most houses are ‘40s, ‘50s, and ‘60s ranch-style,” Sime adds. Homes in Upper Riviera generally price between $1,000,000 and $2,000,000, with sprawling canal-side five-bedroom houses reaching as high as $5,000,000. These sit on sizeable lots with neatly manicured lawns surrounded by palm trees. The area is a hotbed of activity, with the University of Miami and the Riviera Country Club serving as central fixtures in neighborhood culture. “A lot of people go to baseball and basketball games,” Sime continues. “The country club is right there, so is Doctors Hospital – it’s right in the mix of it all.”
