Millbrae may have the resources of an urban center with its own government, but its winding, well-maintained streets and small local restaurants give the area a quiet suburban vibe that appeals to commuters who may work in the greater Bay Area. Located just south of the San Francisco International Airport, 16 miles from its namesake city, residents here have easy access to regional transit like the Bay Area Rapid Transit, or BART. “Some residents are initially concerned about noise from the airport, but it’s not as much of a major concern once you get used to it, especially if you have dual pane windows and sound resistance,” says Ramez Tabri, local real estate agent with Century 21 with over five years of experience in the Bay Area. “The benefits of the location outweigh the noise.”

Main Street-style shopping on Broadway
Local restaurants and shops line Broadway, Millbrae's main roadway through downtown, where Millbrae Pancake House has been family-owned and operated since its opening in 1959. Known for its homemade pancakes and waffles, the breakfast/lunch spot offers a few small dog-friendly dishes for guests' pets. Ranch-style homes and split-levels in similar Traditional styles with attached garages can sell for around $1.5 million, while remodeled homes from the 1930s and Mediterranean Revival-style homes can sell for close to $2 million. “Millbrae has a lot of ranch-style homes and unique two-story homes,” Tabri says. “Many of the properties in the hills have great views with big lots.” Closer to San Andreas Lake on the west side, four-bedroom homes from the 2010s with stone exteriors, flat barrel-tile roofs and paved backyard patios can sell for between $2.5 million and $4 million, depending on lot size and landscaping.
