Small suburb 3 miles west of Mobile's major interstate system
Devonshire's modest ranch-style homes sit fewer than 3 miles "from Mobile's major interstate system," Jennifer Ballard says. A local Realtor and associate broker with Bellator Real Estate LLC, Ballard adds, "It's great for a lot of folks over there who commute to Mississippi for work." Situated just off the Interstate 10 interchange, Devonshire offers easy access to one of the area's largest employers, the Chevron Pascagoula Refinery. This massive oil processing plant employs over 3,300 people and covers around 3,000 acres of land, making it one of the largest refineries in the United States. Along with convenient commuter routes, Devonshire is only a mile from the grocery store and local restaurants on Government Boulevard.
"Starter homes" from the 1970s and '90s
Homes in Devonshire were built between the 1970s and '90s. Ranch-style homes display prairie architectural influences, with low-pitched roofs highlighting the giant oak trees towering above. Over-hanging eaves extend across spacious front porches and steel garage doors. "These are your starter homes," Ballard says. "They're going to be on the lower price end, they're not going to be too big, and they have fairly traditional floor plans." Most homes are under 2,000 square feet, but listing prices vary depending on the house's condition. Recently renovated and well-maintained older homes range between $125,000 and $250,000, while fixer-uppers start around $100,000. Stone Mill is a new subdivision in Devonshire's mostly undeveloped, far north corner. Breaking ground in 2024, the developing community has large empty lots ranging from $25,000 to $65,000.

Restaurants and retailers on Government Boulevard
Restaurants and retailers sit about 3 miles east of Devonshire, along Government Boulevard. Winn Dixie sells groceries next to national chains like Godfather's Pizza and Waffle House. Just north, Simply Seafood is a small local market where folks can buy live or boiled crawfish and fresh Gulf shrimp. Dick Russell's Bar-B-Q serves Southern-style breakfast platters and smoked brisket in a big red barn further up the road. Neighbors is another favorite local restaurant even closer to Devonshire. Opening in 1992, this hole-in-the-wall spot has country classics like fried okra, homemade banana pudding, and freshly harvested oysters from the Gulf of Mexico.
