Hilldale is sought after for its public schools

Hilldale has a secluded, suburban atmosphere, several miles south of the up-and-coming dining and entertainment districts in Central Muskogee . Homebuyers are drawn to the neighborhood for the B-plus-rated Hilldale Public Schools system. “You have to live in the district, in Hilldale, to go to school there. It’s smaller, which people like,” says Holly Rosser-Miller, an Interstate Properties Realtor with nearly a decade of experience.

Highly rated Hilldale Public Schools

The Hilldale Public Schools district serves just over 2,000 students across three schools with a 19-to-1 student-teacher ratio. Hilldale Elementary gets a B, and Hilldale Middle gets a B-plus from Niche. Hilldale High, which gets a B, offers dual enrollment classes at Indian Capital Technology Center, Connors State College and Tulsa Community College.

Several subdivisions of New Traditional and ranch-style homes

Hilldale comprises several subdivisions, including Grandview Heights, Meadows and Southgate Replat. “The Grandview subdivision has several sections, there’s Grandview Heights 1, Grandview Heights 7, all built at different times,” Rosser-Miller says. New Traditional and ranch-style homes are common, and many have broad, grassy front lawns and attached, front-facing garages. Some of the wide, winding streets are lined with narrow, concrete sidewalks and tall sweetgum and oak trees.

Coody Creek and Sam Creek are prone to flooding, and Muskogee County is vulnerable to tornadoes. Winters here are typically chilly with some snow, while summers are hot.

Outdoor recreation at Grandview Park and more

Grandview Park has a paved looped trail and an off-road trail, as well as an adventure-themed playground, with rustic, wooden climbing and balance equipment, covered picnic areas and a small playhouse. Battleground Speedway, nearby, hosts radio-controlled car races on an oval dirt track. Honor Heights Park, on the northwest side of Muskogee, has a playground and a splash pad, as well as gardens and ponds with fishing docks. Several of the city’s biggest annual events are held in the more than 13-acre park, including the Azalea Festival in April and the Garden of Lights, a walk-through light show between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.

Shopping/dining on State Road 165, York Street and downtown

There’s a Dollar General near the corner of Main Street and State Road 165, near a Daylight Donuts and Mel’s Diner, a locally owned American eatery. More dining options, like Boomarang Diner and Senor Lopez Mexican Grill, are on York Street, a few miles away. The main road also has an Ace Hardware and a couple Homeland supermarkets. Downtown Muskogee’s lively Katy District, a little over 4 miles away, has popular restaurants like Watson’s Chophouse, an upscale steakhouse. The historic downtown Depot District is home to cultural attractions, such as the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame and the Muskogee Civic Center, which host concerts and other events.

Highways nearby offer quick commutes to top local employers

Saint Francis Hospital Muskogee and Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center, top local employers, are within about 6 miles of most homes. Creek Nation Casino Muscogee, another big employer in the area, is even closer, near the U.S. Route 64-U.S. Route 69 interchange. U.S. Route 64 Business, known locally as Main Street, connects north toward downtown, less than 4 miles away.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
