Fishing community with quick assess to deep water

Port Salerno, settled in the 1920s along the St. Lucie River inlet, was named for the eponymous coastal Italian city. A central fishing hub of South Florida, the inlet's direct access to the Intercoastal Waterway and the deep water of the Atlantic Ocean is a major draw for those looking to move here. "If you live farther north, you have to drive your boat about 55 minutes to get to deep water, and if you live south, it takes about 45 minutes to get to deep water. So, people really appreciate the location,” says Patricia Olson, a Realtor with RE/MAX of Stuart who also lives in the area.

Boating, fishing and walking trails for outdoor recreation

Access to the Atlantic deep is not the only attraction for the community’s residents. Twin Rivers Park sits in Rockey Point and offers a long pier for fishing, walking trails for exercise and picnic areas for dining near the water. Meanwhile, Peck Lake Park – part of the Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge – is a popular spot for birding. Miles Grant Country Club offers an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, bocce and croquet.

Cover Center shopping center offers Publix

Residents run their errands at Cove Center shopping center, picking up groceries at Publix and essentials at Family Dollar. There’s also a Beall’s location, plus services like a barber, dry cleaner and hair salon. For dining out, there are many restaurants along Route A1A close to Manatee Pocket, including District Table and Bar, a popular spot for high-end, Southern-style food. “It’s always crowded all the time," says Olson. "There's outdoor seating. There's a firepit, which doesn't make much sense for Florida but makes the atmosphere really nice.” Gettin’ Crabby is a modest, divey little spot with highly-lauded seafood. The Loft at Pirate's Cove Resort has been a neighborhood staple for years and serves American classics like burgers, steaks and salads with a light Caribbean flair.
