Located in the center of Calvert County, Prince Frederick has been the county seat since 1722 and was named for the English King George’s son Frederick, Prince of Wales. Prince Frederick has a variety of home styles, including split-level and ranch-style houses. Houses range in price between $350,000 and $600,000, depending on age and condition. There are also townhouses available, priced starting at $300,000. While the streets don’t guarantee sidewalks, residential speed limits are in place that make taking evening strolls or walking the dog safe activities.

Hall Aquatic Center for indoor swimming and exercise during colder weather. “There’s also Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum, where people can learn about the history of Calvert County,” says Kim. “There are more than 500 acres of nature, ready for you to explore. There are also several archeological sites where you can learn more about the history of the area through educational exhibits the museum puts on. Plus, people who like spending time outside can hunt the inlets and ponds for shark teeth, which is a lot of fun.”

Big-name shopping and local restaurants with fresh-caught seafood
Prince Frederick hosts five large shopping centers with a variety of restaurants, shops and bars. When you’ve worked up an appetite, head to the main street, Solomons Island Road, for a selection of dining establishments. Locals love Heritage 485, a modern American restaurant in a repurposed Victorian home from 1891, known for its locally caught seafood and dessert specials. This restaurant celebrates the history of the area while providing delicious meals for the whole family.
