In 1888 the home was purchased by the Mitchell family at a sheriff's sale. A two story addition was added shortly after along with Victorian features such as the front porch. Both the original house and the addition were stuccoed. The house stayed in the Mitchell family for over 100 years which it was purchased and restoration began. A historical reproduction of an old barn was built as the garage. Native plants, patio, and stone walls with stairway to back door were added to enhance the natural lay of the land.
