Dow. By 1958, Schwartz began taking on projects, including the Bergstein House. The house not only reflects Schwartz's architectural vision but also symbolizes the lifelong friendship between Schwartz and Bergstein, who had been neighbors since childhood. The Bergstein House features a blend of plaster, concrete, steel, and brick, characterized by long horizontal lines. A circular driveway leads to a minimalist entrance with sleek rails and steps. The house’s design emphasizes functionality with a seamless flow between rooms. It includes four bedrooms, two full baths, one lavatory, and nearly 3,000 square feet of living space, balancing practicality with aesthetic appeal. The design incorporates two balconies with large sliding windows, enhancing the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The light-filled entryway includes a built in desk where Mr. Bergstein worked while being near his family in the Garden Room, named for the prize-winning rose garden that was outside.
