Built in 1914 the Historic Polvgot Row Houses were home to shipyard workers until 1963 when the shipyards closed. In 1983, they were renovated. Unit 228 McRae Street belonged to the distinguished Bob Jenkins in the 1990's who retired from his interior design business at 12 Market, which he sold and purchased this home. Mr. Jenkins is recognized on the memorial plaque located on the home as well as a plaque at the welcome center. This 2br/1bath unit boasts it's original hardwood floors, front door and the dual fireplaces. The banister and balusters are also original! The doors on the bedroom and bath came from a historic mansion in downtown Wilmington as did the foyer sconce and chandelier. This home offers built-in bookshelves and is the only row home with wainscotting and 3- tiered crown molding.
