Save Our Children started over 40 years ago out of the youth ministries program at Asbury United Methodist Church, the oldest African American Church in Elyria. There have been multiple generations of families and children who have come through their doors. SOC received its 501C3 status in 1996 and has continued to serve children of all ages from kindergarten through high school graduation. They currently run an after-school and summer program for students in grades K-12.

Their mission is to enhance literacy, foster academic excellence, and nurture leadership skills among the vulnerable youth in our community.
Along with Dale Yost Construction, through programming with the middle schoolers of SOC, this house was constructed. The children selected the plan, all of the selections, and learned about the building process along the way.
