“Our parks and trail system really try to keep people connected to the natural environment,” says Ramsey city administrator Brian Hagen. More than half the city borders the Rum and Mississippi rivers and over 15% of its area is protected wetlands. “Ramsey has some amazing bike trails riding along the rivers – you go through different wetlands and wooded areas as the paved trail winds its way through the city,” says Realtor Jon D. Jondahl with Inc. Real Estate. This rapidly growing community has a lot to offer homebuyers in terms of real estate and outdoor amenities.

Abundance of housing options
“You’ve got the city lifestyle and the country lifestyle; whether you want acreage lots or city lots or town houses, you’re going to find all of that,” Jondahl says. The housing market in Ramsey is incredibly competitive, with many homes getting multiple offers, often with waived contingencies. The median sale price of $375,000 climbed almost 6% between 2022 and early 2023, with properties spending about 25 days on the market. “Your new construction pricing starts at $400,000 and goes up from there. In older neighborhoods, you can still get nice houses and acreage lots in the $250,000 to $300,000 range,” Jondahl says. The home construction company Lennar is driving much of the development in Ramsey, with two planned communities actively selling. Northfolk Meadows is a single-family community with homes starting around $460,000 and climbing to the $600,000 range. On the high end, homes feature a casual breakfast nook, a versatile study and an upstairs loft. Lynwood is offering single-family homes and town houses starting at $300,000. A new two-story townhome features a modern design, large front porch and a spacious owner’s suite with a retreat. Both communities offer picture-perfect landscapes with meticulously maintained grounds.

Spend the day outdoors
Ramsey is an outdoor lover’s paradise with two golf courses and over a dozen parks. Both public courses, Rum River Hills and the Links at Northfork are completely different. “Rum River Hills winds its way along the Rum River and is more scenic,” Jondahl says. Locals laud the views and the reasonable price for a challenging course. “Northfork is a Scottish links-style course,” Hagen says. “There’s lots of open grass and fairways – it’s a little bit more unique than the other courses I’ve golfed.” Satisfied guests rave about Northfork as a wedding venue. Like so many areas of the Twin Cities, Ramsey is flush with parks and greenspace. Residents can take their pup to make new friends at the dog run in Alpine Park. Emerald Pond Park promises a fabulous fountain, a welcoming playground for the kids and swings along the trail for enjoying the scenery. Central Park is the beating heart of the community and is packed with year-round recreational opportunities. “In the summer you have games and tournaments at the multiple sports fields and in the wintertime, we flood multiple ice rinks to create a skating trail through the park, so you’re not just skating in a small circle,” Hagen says

Anoka-Hennepin schools
Ramsey is part of the Anoka-Hennepin school district and is served by two different elementary schools. Pact Charter School is a community-based K-12 charter school that offers small class sizes and a shorter school year thanks to what they call maximized learning. The public charter school is tuition-free and focuses on personal growth with monthly character awards. Ramsey Elementary School is one of the best and most diverse in the state, according to Niche, which gives it a solid B. The school’s talent development program is available to students who need advanced academic rigor. Ramsey Elementary is likely followed by Anoka Middle School for the Arts and Anoka High School afterward, which both have B Niche grades.

Growing selection of businesses
“Our downtown near City Hall is a work in progress, but there have been some good successes already,” Hagen says of the apartment and town house development in the downtown area. “Commercial development has been happening too – grocery stores, a daycare facility,” Hagen says. Ramsey has several individual business nodes, with the main business district running along U.S. Highway 10. Stop in for groceries and essentials at Coborn’s Grocery located in the Northstar Market Place. Three miles east is the Outpost, a bar and grill that has been there forever. “It’s a bar with live music and entertainment 3-to-4 nights a week, and they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner,” Jondahl says.

Community festivals
The Ramsey community comes together each year at the annual Happy Days festival. The popular event takes place in early September in The COR, which is the city’s downtown development. The wide range of family-friendly activities includes a 5K youth fun run, bean bag tournament, car show, chili cook-off, dog show, food trucks and a parade. It’s a great place to catch up with friends and neighbors as the precious Minnesota summer wanes.
