Adam Kates

Adam leads the acquisitions and disposition teams, real estate development, and strategic direction for Thomas James Homes’ Northern California division. He is also responsible for product development, purchasing, and construction operations, as well as the profitability of the business.

A seasoned Bay Area real estate professional, Adam previously held executive roles with Classic Communities and Meritage Homes before joining Thomas James Homes as executive vice president of asset management for Northern California. Promoted to division president in December 2023, he is applying his demonstrated skill in land development, real estate development, dispositions, entitlements, and real estate economics to lead a best-in-class homebuilding operation of 70+ professionals.

A graduate of Duke University School of Law, Adam began his career as an associate at the law firm Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich and later became director of real estate and legal affairs at Parachute, Inc. He is a licensed attorney with the State Bar of California and credentialed real estate broker.
