Alex is a partner of the Pettitt Group, a boutique residential real estate team at Compass.
After graduating from Texas A&M University with a degree in Landscape Architecture, Alex worked with one of the Nation’s leading Luxury production homebuilders for a number of years. After that tenure, Alex joined a small infill custom builder and helped grow and transform it into a successful, award-winning company with many Austin Energy Green Building Program rated homes. In 2008, Alex founded Spring Builders, LLC; an award-winning firm dedicated to creating eco-savvy custom homes and developments in areas central to Austin. He built and developed smart, sustainable, adaptable, and enduring properties for the discerning client. With more than 18 years of experience and having managed over 90 custom homes built in Austin, he brings a unique perspective to Residential Real Estate. Alex is still an active member in the Austin area Home Builders Association; he has been the Vice President and Chair of the Education Committee, served on the Green Building Taskforce, and was a member of the Custom Builders Council. Alex is a member of the Austin Energy Green Builders Program, U.S.Green Building Council, and holds the National Association of Homebuilders Graduate Master Builder, Master Certified Green Building Professional, and Certified Graduate Builder designations. Alex has built homes featured on the Austin AIA homes tour, Austin Energy’s Cool Houses Tour, Austin Modern Homes Tour, and the Austin Women’s Symphony League Designer Showhouse. Additionally, he is a member of the Institute for Luxury Home Marketing, having earned the Certified Luxury Home Marketing Specialist designation.
Not only has Alex been a custom builder for almost two decades, but he has studied art and architecture across the world. He's lived in Italy, Guatemala, Costa Rica and traveled from Canada to Columbia, Alaska to Brazil, Scotland to Monaco. Alex is truly a dynamic being that blends the discipline learned during his tenure in the Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets, with the creativity and passion that drove him to pursue a degree in Landscape Architecture. He is equally at home on his kayak paddling across the bays and rivers of Texas as he is at a music festival or Symphony fundraiser.
Alex is a Texas native, raised on the border in the Rio Grande Valley who has lived in Austin for over 20 years. Alex and his wife of 19 years and real estate partner, Amanda, make their home in Westlake with their two extraordinary daughters and loving Springer Spaniel. When they are not helping clients in real estate, you can find them enjoying the fruits that Austin has to offer. Avid music fans attending multiple festivals, seeking new local music almost weekly, and proud supporters of the Symphony. Exploring the Greenbelt, volunteering for their kids' schools and multiple local charities, and experiencing epicurean delights are all part of the Austin lifestyle that fuels their passion.
