In a past corporate life I myself was in the client seat of buying and selling homes working with various real estate agents throughout the three states I’ve lived in (Maryland, Pennsylvania, and now of course Arizona). This put me in a unique situation of really understanding the importance of a good agent. I think most anyone reading this can relate in that often the best leaders are those who have taken the good qualities they’ve seen in others and emulated those while also recognizing what really doesn’t work.
You need an agent who will listen to your wants and needs. Someone who not only has the IQ for contract compliance but also has the EQ for negotiations and even sometimes dealing with a difficult person on the other side of the deal. You’ll want someone who returns emails/calls/texts promptly. Someone who makes availability so you don’t lose out on a home. Someone who is connected and can point you in the right direction for lenders, contractors, inspectors. Someone who is willing to work on your timeframe and will not be pushy towards you. Someone who is full time and can competently write a contract. Someone who will give you valuable information on what other homes in the neighborhood has closed for and historical sales information.
