David Lockwood has a great appreciation for business competition and enjoys helping his team members win. This has been relevant in his career in brokerage activities with his clients and now with his approach to management. David enjoys seeing the success of people within Colliers who apply a strong work ethic and persevere to win assignments. He possesses a strong passion for helping his clients achieve their goals whether it is in leasing space or determining solutions to complicated real estate matters.
David has the great honor of currently serving as the President-Elect of SIOR Global - Society of Industrial and Office REALTORS®. He will become President of this worldwide organization in the fall of 2023.
He has obtained three professional designations. He wholeheartedly supports professional designations and he encourages all commercial brokers to obtain the designation of their choice. He is a past Chairman of the Carolinas Chapter of SIOR. He has also been active within SIOR on a national level, having served on dozens of committees and task forces, and has held senior leadership positions including the Board of Directors for several different firms.
David has been recognized numerous times for his service to various REALTOR® associations. He is a past recipient of the SCRA REALTOR® of the Year Award, the CCRA REALTOR® of the Year Award, the President’s Excellence Program Award recipient, and the Grassroots REALTOR® of the Year. He was the NAR 2013 Commercial Award recipient. David has served as the President of CCRA (1,800 members) and SCRA (22,000 members).
He recently completed ten years serving on the Executive Committee of NAR. He previously served on NAR’s Finance and Investment Reserves committees. David is currently serving on the Board of Directors of Second Century Ventures, a NAR-affiliated venture capital company.
David grew up in Charlotte, NC. He graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science degree and began his career by running the residential multiple listing service in Columbia. Once he had a taste of real estate, he knew he wanted to become a commercial broker working on office towers. David had the great fortune of joining Colliers in 1986 as an office broker. Once there, he progressed to managing the leasing division of Colliers and was eventually promoted to Chief Operating Officer and Market President.
David strongly believes that he has a duty to give back to the community that he lives in and makes an active effort to be involved in organizations about which he is passionate. He recently completed nine years as a South Carolina Real Estate Commissioner representing the Second Congressional District. He is a past Chair of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce. He is also a member of the Clemson University Board of Visitors and served as Chair of the Student Engagement Committee.
Additionally, David served as the Chair of the Columbia City Center Partnership for the CBD Business Improvement District. He is also a past member of the Board of Directors of Friends of Juvenile Justice and a past Chair of the Board of Sandhills School.
