Emma James

As the top agent in Corcoran’s Bed-Stuy office, Emma's interest in real estate began when she started looking for an apartment for herself and her family. She had lived in the Village for her first eight years in NYC, but after her first child was born, "320 square feet were not going to cut it." In her search for a larger space, she quickly realized that Brooklyn was where she should be. In 2002, Emma bought one of the first condos on Washington Avenue, then three years later she bought a completely derelict townhouse in Bedford Stuyvesant and managed a total gut renovation that included supervising seven subcontractors, designing floor plans, and changing the CO of her multifamily building. Over the past 18 years, Emma has herself been a buyer, a seller, a landlord, and an Airbnb host and is extremely conversant in all aspects of townhouse living. In her real estate career, Emma’s extensive experience of design and construction considerations as well as expertise with townhouses sets her apart from most agents in the industry. These skills are invaluable and townhouse sales now account for a large proportion of her business. Emma is an expat from the UK and still has that accent! She moved to NYC in 1995 to work as a fabric designer in the garment industry. Emma was responsible for predicting trends and producing fabrics for fashion apparel, affording her a great eye for color and design. The mother of two teenage sons, Emma has navigated the NYC public and private school systems as well as the city’s parks, playgrounds, and sports facilities. She has lived in Bed-Stuy for the past 15 years and is an active community member, attending community board meetings and running her block association.
