George Berkey

Mr. Berkey has been in the real estate industry for over 30 years. He began his real estate career in Palm Desert, California with his father as a business partner in George Berkey and Associates Inc. Together they built the largest and most prestigious commercial real estate firm in the Coachella Valley.

The Berkey team was instrumental in managing the land assemblage, development or entitlement of some of the area's most famous golf course communities, including; PGA West, The Quarry, The Reserve and Big Horn. As a team, the Berkeys were responsible for in excess of $500 million in sales between 1980 and 2000. Additionally Mr. Berkey was the lead developer of two of Palm Desert's business parks, comprising over 60 acres, located in the commercially active Cook St. area.

Mr. Berkey was also instrumental in directing one of the largest public / private land swaps in the Coachella Valley. Working with the Nature Conservancy, Berkey assembled in excess of 20,000 acres of environmentally sensitive privately owned land and concluded an exchange of publically held Bureau of Land Management Land that eventually was commercially developed. Mr. Berkey's management and organizational skills, as well as governmental knowledge and extreme patience, were tested in this and other public / private land exchanges.

Today's market conditions are very similar to the Savings and Loan crisis of the 1980s, which spurred the creation of The Resolution Trust Corporation. The RTC disposed of toxic assets of insolvent Savings and Loans. Mr. Berkey's participation in the acquisition of numerous RTC assets in the '80's and '90's provides great insight to navigating the opportunities today.
