Joanie Lucas

Joanie brings extensive knowledge and skill to Charleston Real Estate. A native Charlestonian, Joanie grew up in historic downtown and developed an early interest in preservation and architecture. Her ancestors were among the first settlers in Charleston, arriving in the 1670s and becoming leaders in the shipping and agricultural industries and owners of several rice and cotton plantations. Joanie’s Great Great Grandmother, Eliza Lucas, famously discovered Indigo and created a business exporting the dye to England. Eliza was married to Charles Cotesworth Pinckney, and the couple had two sons, both of whom were signers of the U.S. Constitution. Joanie’s brother continues to run the family shipping company and is the 4th generation Norwegian Consulate in Charleston.

In keeping with her family’s traditions, Joanie has built a successful career of her own. She began her real estate career at Disher, Hamrick & Myers, where she was instrumental in building a specialized downtown real estate team and eventually becoming a partner. Joanie later opened her own company, Historic Properties of Charleston, which soon merged with another firm to form Historic Charleston Properties. The partners were able to capture 37% of the downtown market for properties valued at more than $2 million. Joanie then took her expertise to other well-known downtown real estate teams, including William Means Christies, Carolina One Downtown, and Daniel Ravenel Sotheby’s. Joanie is a member of the Preservation Society, Gibbes Museum of Art, Charleston Museum, Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry, National Trust for Historic Preservation, the South Carolina Historical Society, the Charleston Library Society, and past trustee of Ashley Hall School.
