Kelley was born and raised in Wheeling, West Virginia, and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. After graduation, she moved to Baltimore, Maryland, and was a Corporate Loan Officer for First National Bank of Maryland. After moving to Charlotte, Kelley worked for Bank of America as the Vice President of Treasury Services.

Kelley and her husband, Tom, have a daughter, Sophia, and a cat named Sushi.
