About Kona

After receiving a Regents Scholarship to attend UH Manoa in 1993 and being a walk-on member of the UH Manoa men's basketball team, Kona received his bachelor's degree in Economics and then continued his education at San Diego State University, receiving his Master's Degree in Business Administration in 2002.

During his time in California, Kona began his career in real estate and finance in 1998 then launched his own real estate finance business. In 2005, the Island beckoned, and he moved back to Hilo to join his father, Kelly, stepmother, Sharon, and brother, Jake in the family brokerage.

In his free time, Kona enjoys hiking the slopes of the Hamakua Coast and exploring the natural beauty of the Big Island. He is a supporter of UH-Hilo athletics, having served as President of the University booster club as President and Director. He has also served several years as a lecturer in Real Estate and Finance at the UH-Hilo College of Business. Kona lived abroad in Asia for several years, enjoys traveling internationally, and supports the Big Island community and non-profit organizations.
