About Martin

Local roots, local history, local perspective. Martin Cates is native to Camden with Midcoast family roots from the 1800’s. With family throughout the area, community history and perspective are at the forefront of understanding the real estate market and what makes this a special place to work, live and recreate.

Martin’s first career began in manufacturing with FMC Corporation in 1975. Positions included supervisory, performance management training, manufacturing management, and facilitation for integrated business systems projects.

Martin’s career in real estate began in 1992 with a multi-office real estate firm working the Camden-Rockport market. Ultimately taking on office sales and management, Martin managed offices in Belfast, Rockland, and Waldoboro. In addition, Martin managed a substantial portfolio of listings and sales developing a depth of experience in residential, commercial, business, relocation, and lifestyle and transitional real estate needs.

Much the community advocate, Martin has worked within the REALTOR trade association organization on numerous committees supporting professional development, fundraising to support affordable housing and fuel assistance. For many years, Martin has served on many committees for the town of Camden supporting economic development, budget review, and currently on the town Selectboard, four years as Chair. Additionally, Martin serves on the Knox County Board of Assessment Review.

In 2012, Martin formed Cates Real Estate. In doing so, Martin has partnered his effort with capable advisors savvy on the processes of today’s technological fast-paced world. With a professional office location on Main Street in the Knox County business hub of Rockland, Maine. Martin and the Cates Real Estate agents and brokers have pride in being local resources and advisors for your real estate life needs.
