Michael moved from Ohio to Boston’s Fenway neighborhood in 1987 after receiving a scholarship to study jazz guitar performance at Berklee College of Music. After college he sat for his Real Estate license and spent a summer renting apartments to make ends meet. He saw lots of opportunity in real estate and set out on a new career path while continuing to nurture his passion for music.
Soon after, Michael purchased his first condominium. When he turned 24 he became a landlord after buying his first investment property. He continued to acquire properties and used his expertise in this area to advance from rentals to into sales brokerage. Now 33 years on, he's brokered over 1,000 transactions for sellers and buyers, and has purchased over 75 investment properties himself.
Michael treats every client’s transaction as if it were his own. He has an extremely high standard for the brokerage services he provides. It’s the combination of these two factors that has created success in his business. So much that over 90% of his business is repeat or referred.
There are many qualities and skills that go into being an excellent real estate professional – integrity, in-depth community and market knowledge, marketing savvy, effective negotiation skills and a high-quality professional network, all of which are hallmarks of how he works. He understands that putting his clients first will create long-term relationships with them. This means keeping himself accessible, being a good listener as well as a good communicator, responding quickly to clients’ needs and having the skills required to create results, and exceed expectations.
This “client first” philosophy has always been Michael's approach. It requires him to continually improve his skills and ways of doing business. He's found that the latest technologies are enabling him to do everything he's always done, only much more quickly and efficiently. They’ve also helped to extend the range of services he provides to his clients. The creation of his own real estate company—M. J. Grappo Realty Associates—is the end-result of his dedication to his profession, and to his clients.
