I have lived in the Washington Metropolitan Area since 1980 having migrated from Kingston, Jamaica.
Today's real estate market has become more complex by virtue of the ever-changing laws and regulations by which it is governed. In addition, due to technological advances, real estate is marketed quite differently from a mere few years ago. This means that first and foremost one needs to have not only the basic knowledge of real estate, but must also be motivated to keep abreast of the numerous regulatory and technological changes.
This presents no challenge to me coming from a background in two other heavily regulated industries – accounting and financial services. Always striving for excellence, I keep abreast of our industry changes and am part of the small cadre of real estate professionals with coveted designations including the Accredited Buyer's Representative (ABR), Graduate Real Estate Institute (GRI), Short Sales and Foreclosure Resource (SFR) and Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES).
