They proudly graduated from Myrtle Beach High in 1970 and went on to earn a degree from USC in 1974. Their professional path initially led them into banking and wholesale, but their heart belonged to the beach, particularly to lifeguarding, which soon transformed into a lifelong career centered around sharing the "life is a beach" ethos with those seeking coastal living in South Carolina.
From humble beginnings renting rafts and peddling Duntan lotion on the shores of Myrtle Beach, they evolved into a prominent figure in the beach real estate scene. Their journey continued through various roles until the pivotal Wild Dunes opportunity arose in 1983. Building on this success, they founded Dunes Properties in 1989, aiming to extend the beach experience across the entire Charleston Coast.
Their business weathered the challenges of Hurricane Hugo in its inaugural year, setting the stage for the launch of their vacation rental program in 1990. This marked the beginning of an expansion into Folly Beach and Kiawah/Seabrook in the mid-90s. Their vision for Dunes Properties was unwavering, continually adapting and thriving.
In 2007, they introduced The Real Estate Studio to downtown historic Charleston. This innovative space became a hub in the shopping district, catering to out-of-town buyers with interactive search applications on large screens, fostering an environment free of pressure, and providing concierge service. Within the Studio, they also championed the local artist community, further enriching the cultural tapestry of the area.
Family has always been central to their life story. They raised their children, Wes and Medley, amid the charm of Wild Dunes in the 80s and 90s. However, for the past decade, they've been firmly planted on the peninsula of Charleston. Their wife, Kristin, has carved her niche in the real estate market, specializing exclusively in the Charleston peninsula, and she is the visionary behind Charleston Cycle Chic, an initiative dedicated to promoting the cycling community.
