About Ryan
Growing up in a small, rural Missouri town of 300 people, Ryan was a very outdoorsy kid, often camping, fishing and hunting with friends and family. Participating in Boy Scouts of America, while working toward the rank of Eagle Scout, further developed his appreciation for nature and wildlife. Sports were also a huge part of his family life. Basketball was king, and as a former collegiate athlete, Ryan learned of the rewards that follow hard work and perseverance. In his hometown, everyone knew everyone for the most part and he developed a profound sense of community. This is foundational to his business today as clients become friends and family, their community.
Ryan's father instilled an uncompromising work ethic in him through his example. He maintained a corporate leadership career to support their family of seven but was always working on other profit-generating projects on the side. He inherited this entrepreneurial spirit as well. He has always loved to draw and developed artistic talents as a youth, dreaming of becoming an architect someday. However, drawing buildings did not appeal to him while in college, so he studied business and entrepreneurship.
Ryan's formal education was put on hold when he decided to serve a two-year mission for his church in the Dominican Republic. Living in a third-world country, taking bucket showers and sleeping in mosquito nets in cinderblock homes with tin roofs was life-changing to say the least. After a crash course in Spanish in the mission training center, he was sent to the Dominican Republic and learned the rest by immersion. Ryan learned many things during that two years, far more than Latin American culture or the Spanish language. He learned of blessings that come from selfless service and how to truly listen to people. When you sit in front of someone, initially understanding merely ten percent of what they say, you quickly learn to pick up on nonverbal communication and facial expressions to determine where they are coming from. It was this experience that taught him how to build lasting relationships by listening to and caring for others. This skillset has helped him in indescribable ways throughout his career, but especially as a trusted real estate consultant. His time serving the Dominican people as a missionary was one of the most rewarding experiences of his life, and he regularly sees blessings today that are direct results of that service.
When Ryan returned home, he finished college, married his Wife, Karra, and began working in the insurance industry with the intention to become an agent with his own sales business eventually. Though his entrepreneurial spirit was alive and well, it just never felt like the right time to make that leap. So, instead, he kept moving up through the operational side, serving in a variety of different claims and human resources leadership positions.
About twelve years into his profession, he kept feeling that he was supposed to be doing something different, even though his career was progressing well. He spent several years pondering and praying about what that should be. Ryan needed something that would be the best fit for his family and him, because by then Karra and he had three children, Brayden, Kami and Gavin, to think about.
Then, it became clear to him that real estate was the path, so he obtained his license and took advantage of an amazing opportunity to join The Home Selling Team. Randy and Janine, the founders of their team and his mentors, had led their team into the Top 1% in production in Arizona, and Ryan jumped at the chance to learn this business the right way from some of the best in the industry.
One of his most important learnings in life is that no one becomes successful by themselves. The key is finding the right people to guide you, and then go to work. Ryan is happy to be following his dreams and doing this work that he is passionate about! They are an amazing team together and they love getting results for and serving their clients.
As driven as he is to be successful in the real estate world, his faith and family come first. David O. McKay once said, “No other success can compensate for failure in the home.” Ryan loves this reminder to strive for balance in life, while continuing his commitment to his clients. He loves people and wants to see them achieve their goals. That’s really what this business is all about.
The average agent sells only five properties a year. Ryan closed 15 transactions his first year and more than doubled that in his second. However, there is no secret sauce to success. You surround yourself with successful people, and you do the work. Anybody who’s really good in this industry will tell you that. You have to work. You must take care of your clients. It’s that simple.
