Rapid growth in this northwest Minneapolis suburb

Formerly a sleepy farming community about 25 miles northwest of Minneapolis, the city of Rogers saw a more than 400 percent jump in population in the 2000 census as suburban growth reached the northwest. Another leap happened in 2012 when Rogers annexed nearby Hassan Township to boost the population to over 13,000. “It’s what’s considered an outer-ring suburb that’s growing,” says Andy Peterson, a real estate agent with eXp Realty. “There’s a lot of new construction happening here. Development is encroaching in this direction.”

Several major employers are located at the Diamond Lake Industrial Center, close to Interstate 94, east of downtown, for local employment opportunities. Graco is a Minneapolis-based company that builds pressure washers, commercial sanitizing sprayers and other similar products. Veritiv manufactures packaging and hygiene products. At least a dozen more businesses provide various employment opportunities. Several of the park's companies are among the city's largest employers.

With abundant land and space, Rogers sees continued residential growth with new construction and development.

Plenty of outdoor space in Rogers

The largest park in Rogers is the over 2,600-acre Crow–Hassan Park Reserve, with scenic trails that can be navigated by foot or by horseback. “You’re not going to find a playground at this park,” says Bill Christian, a Realtor with the Bill Christian Team at Keller Williams Realty Integrity Northwest. “It’s a chance to enjoy different types of wildlife in their preserved habitat.” Wildlife includes deer, foxes, coyotes, hawks and bald eagles. There is an off-leash dog park, but dogs must be kept on a leash while on the trails. The Rogers Activity Center has an indoor skating rink with occasional special events like the Glow-n-Skate, where the lights are turned low, and admission to the event includes a glow necklace.
