A recreational community with access to amenities
Vista Verde South is a residential community just outside San Antonio’s up-and-coming arts districts. While it may be slightly removed because of its location on the west side of Interstate 10, it’s only a short walk or drive to boutique shops, breweries and eateries in the SoFlo and Lone Star neighborhoods. The University of Texas at San Antonio downtown campus is located at the north end of the neighborhood, which is planned for a major, $130 million expansion in the coming years. “The main attraction is the proximity to downtown, and the hundreds of miles of walking trails that go all over this part of the city,” says Realtor Robert Elder of Phyllis Browning Co. Real Estate, a longtime San Antonio agent. “You’re pretty close to the San Antonio River Walk, which is a little touristy, and there’s a great culinary scene in that area.”

1990s bungalows and new lofts
Vista Verde South offers a mix of residential streets with single-family homes and apartment buildings that back up to several commercial and industrial corridors. Its residential areas are filled with midcentury bungalows and ranch homes and some two-story homes that date back to the 1990s. “Neighborhoods west of Interstate 10 are seeing an increasing number of homes being renovated and rehabbed,” Elder says. Homes typically feature narrow driveways, some of which end with a one-car garage, and typically sell for between $175,000 and $250,000. For something with less upkeep, there are also some apartments in the area, including Peanut Factory Lofts, a contemporary-style loft building with a gym and swimming pool.

Hosting picnics at Smith Park
Bill Miller Plaza, centrally located on the University of Texas at San Antonio campus, is a local green space where students and residents can enjoy the sunshine on a nice day. Just outside the neighborhood, there's also Smith Park, a small, community park with picnic tables and a grassy lawn. Residents also have easy access to the Alazan Creek Trail, which winds alongside the creek for about a half-mile before connecting with the San Pedro Creek Greenway and offers a connecting route with the San Antonio River Walk trail.

Shopping in Historic Market Square
There’s little in the way of shopping and dining in Vista Verde South, but residents are just a quick trek away from some of the city’s best known cultural attractions, eateries and shops. Less than a mile away, people flock to San Antonio’s Historic Market Square every weekend, an indoor shopping area and plaza where vendors sell Mexican wares and authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex fare. Spicy, savory cooking traditions are kept alive and well at restaurants like Mi Tierra Café y Panaderia and La Margarita Mexican Restaurant & Oyster Bar. Locals will also find upscale restaurants and breweries just a few miles east in the trendy Lone Star district, a former industrial area where old buildings have been renovated into mixed-use buildings and restaurants. Grocery shopping can be found less than a mile away at H-E-B market, a major regional chain headquartered in the city.
