San Diego neighborhood with 1920s homes and global cuisines
Corridor sits between two freeways 6 miles northeast of downtown San Diego. “This area begins to feel more urban than the neighborhoods to the north because there’s more car traffic and you see homes sitting closer together,” says Realtor Jamie Lennon with TLC Realty of SoCal, who’s been selling in San Diego since 2013. Many commuters drive by this small neighborhood without thinking much of it. However, a closer look at its city blocks reveals 1920s homes and eclectic eateries representing cultures from many corners of the world. Its compact grid gives kids a short walk to school and allows residents to gather at Ethiopian coffee houses for breakfast, Colombian restaurants for lunch and Mexican churro stands for a late-night snack.
Corridor is a dense urban neighborhood in Mid City San Diego.
Pancho Villa Farmer's Market, a full scale grocer, also offers hot, fresh Mexican fare.

Mexican churro stands and Ethiopian coffee shops
Grocers, food stands and restaurants on El Cajon Boulevard and University Avenue represent the neighborhood’s many cultural backgrounds. These include Mexican spots like Pancho Villa Farmer’s Market, which sells produce, prepared foods and fresh tortillas. El Tigre Churros Y Platanos is a popular late-night food stand frying up churros and plantains. Sabores Colombianos serves traditional Colombian fare like empanadas and bandeja paisa, a plate of fried pork cracklings, steak and sausages. West African cultures are showcased at Asmara Café, an Ethiopian and Eritrean coffee house making traditional cuisine and beverages using arabica coffee imported from Ethiopia. There’s a Vons just west of the neighborhood for basic necessities.
Asmara Cafe features Ethiopian coffee and bites right on University Avenue.
Supercocina offers indoor and outdoor seating with lively music to pair.

1920s bungalows next to multifamily condos
The neighborhood blocks between El Cajon Boulevard and University Avenue are almost entirely residential. A mix of multifamily condo buildings and small 1920s homes line the streets. They sit close together on small lots, and single-family homes might have a bit of grass out front between them and the sidewalk. Many of the 1920s bungalows, cottages and Spanish-inspired homes haven’t changed much, but some have been remodeled interiors and exterior finishes. “The prices might not look low to someone who’s not from San Diego, but these are some of the less expensive single-family homes you’ll find,” Lennon says. Single-family homes range from $600,000 to $1 million. The neighborhood’s condos can come in the form of ground-level duplexes or units in multistory buildings. They can cost $400,000 to $800,000 for larger updated units.
Spanish tile adorned ranch homes, built as early as the 1920s, line some Corridor blocks.

Kids begin at Edison Elementary, given a B-plus, and continue at Wilson Middle, rated a B-minus. Both schools are in the neighborhood, so most students walk. B-plus-rated Hoover High is about a mile east. Its STEAM academies promote career pathways focused on science, technology, engineering, arts and math. These include the Academy of Literature and the Academy of Sustainable Building and Engineering, where students have internship opportunities and can shadow people working in their chosen field.

Teralta Park is on the neighborhood’s east side. It has open lawn space surrounded by a paved walking loop and shady gazebos. One end of the park has a tree-lined garden area with a basketball court and playground. If they're not at a park, residents are probably at the beach. Ocean Beach and Coronado Beach are both about 10 miles away.
Teralta Neighborhood Park in Corridor offers dog friendly paths.

Six miles to San Diego Naval Base
The neighborhood is between Highway 15 to the east and Interstate 805 to the west. Many locals use Highway 15 to commute 6 miles southwest to downtown San Diego and San Diego Naval Base. Those who don’t drive can catch the San Diego Metro bus on El Cajon Boulevard or University Avenue. San Diego International Airport is 10 miles west.
Teralta Park is the dominating feature in Corridor.
