Outside, a sweeping roofline highlights the cityscape and Pacific Ocean views that give Skyline it’s name.

Try an array of international cuisine at Trolley Stop Plaza
Locals living on the east side of Skyline can walk to Hank's Farmer Market for fresh produce and multicultural groceries. On the opposite side of the neighborhood, Imperial Food Supermarket is a long-standing family-owned grocery store with all the everyday essentials. Daneyel and Tommy Walker are two longtime residents who recently opened a wellness-based coffee shop on Imperial Avenue with a mission "to create a third place for the community." Daneyel explains, "When we saw the local Starbucks took away all their indoor and outdoor seating, we decided to open The Mental Bar as a multifunctional space where locals can come together over coffee and learn about wellness." Just a bit further down the road, residents can drop by Trolley Stop Plaza and try an array of multicultural fare – from fresh Mexican street tacos to authentic Jamaican jerk chicken. More traditional Mexican cuisine is found further up the road at Taqueria Imperial.

Skyline hosts San Diego’s longest-running black culture celebration
From new local art shows to annual culture festivals, Skyline residents celebrate their multicultural heritage throughout the year. Summers kick off with the Kuumba Festival each May. Skyline Drive winds through Southeast San Diego's hilly terrain, connecting the neighborhood's two residential sections. Pony Baseball is back at Skyline Hills Park
Local kids walk to the Boys & Girls Club on Imperial Avenue for after-school programming. This vital community organization offers quality youth sports leagues and homework help – plus a free healthy food program. Next door, Marie Widman Park has a small playground area and a paved loop trail where many residents walk their dogs. Another neighborhood walking path passes by the basketball court and larger playground at Christopher Wilson Park, next to the San Diego Police Department. Neighborhood parents came together in 2022 to bring the local Pony Baseball League back to the ballfields at Skyline Hills Park and Recreation Center. Around the same time, a massive modern playground was built beside the park's fenced-in basketball courts.

Imperial Avenue links to Interstate 805
Imperial Avenue is a major thoroughfare running along the far north border of Skyline. Heading west down the road, locals can turn onto Euclid Avenue and arrive at Paradise Valley Hospital in fewer than 10 minutes. Interstate 805 links to Imperial Avenue just a bit further west. From here, residents can hop on Highway 94 to access Downtown San Diego and the airport in about 25 minutes. Along with nearby highways, “the trolley runs right through the heart of the neighborhood which makes it super convenient to get just about anywhere,” says Miriam de la Mora, a local Realtor at Southern California Realty with 29 years’ experience.
Biliteracy programs at Fulton K-8 School
Skyline students may attend San Diego Unified Schools, which offers a voluntary enrollment exchange program. Children walk together to Fulton K-8 School just across Skyline Drive. Scoring a B-minus on Niche, Fulton offers an integrated biliteracy program for Spanish-speaking English learners. Ninth graders move on to the B-plus-rated Morse High School. Thanks to the recently remodeled Skyline Hills Library, all students have access to innovative technology and excellent extracurricular programs.

Rare flash-flooding in 2024
San Diego’s dry desert climate means it’s usually sunny year-round, but in January 2024, a major storm caused flash-flooding across the city’s central and southeastern regions. Skyline and its western neighbor, Encanto, experienced severe flood damage during the storm. The lower-lying homes endured the brunt of the storm.
