Serving students in kindergarten through fifth grade, Findley Community Learning Center is one of four public elementary schools in Akron’s North Hill cluster. As a participant in the Be Kind 330 initiative, the school encourages students to help cultivate a positive atmosphere among themselves and within Findley’s culture. Findley values strong communication among parents, students and school personnel. To this end, the school uses the eSchoolPlus Home Access Center and The Findley Parent newsletter to communicate important information, while the Friday5 summarizes school happenings each week on the website. Events such as Family Harvest Reading Night also invite parents to be part of the Findley community. The school is working toward improving student achievement, as evidenced by its high scores for addressing inequitable learning outcomes. In addition to making tutoring available to all grade levels, Findley participates in the AkronReads program to help boost students’ reading skills and offers after-school programs. Moreover, Findley boasts a highly credentialed staff, with most teachers holding a master’s degree or higher. In addition to the standard curriculum, the school hosts a licensed art and music teacher each week to support students’ creative expression and field trips that offer up-close learning experiences beyond the classroom.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
