GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. It has been good so far, better than middle school but it definitely could use improvements. I think we have some good teachers while others are questionable as well as the student environment. We have had many fights and police called as well as me getting called racist names normally but white people can't hold their mouth so I don't know what to expect honestly.

I have enjoyed my experience at Ames High but in my Freshman and sophomore years there were a lot of fights and we are still recovering from several bad administrators. I would like the classes to be harder and detention to be enforced. I loved all of my teachers and there is a lot of diversity and the students support each other which is rare in a school.

As a 2023 graduate from Ames High, I can only say good things about the public school. I was the very first class to graduate from the new building. It was amazing and the school spirit was at an all-time high. Sporting events were packed with students and adults/parents. I couldn't ask for a more lively school. Teachers were caring, considerate, and respectful, which students than mirrored. Overall, Ames High School was one of the most important few years of my young life, and I will never take it for granted.

Awesome teachers but miserable administration at all levels. So worried about political correctness that they will not back their teachers, and will not AT ALL focus on an effective learning environment for those who simply want to learn. The Ames school system as a whole needs a complete review of...

Ames is a great school with many opportunities to students in many fields of study! They are ranked very high in test scores, but also value clubs and arts as well.

Didn't realize how great of an education I had received from Ames High until I got to college. AHS really prepared me to succeed at the next level. Also, many great opportunities with academic clubs, sports, arts, music and other misc. clubs. Thrilled with my experience at AHS.

This school can be very comparable to a prison. I attended Ames High School 2008-2012. I LOVED my freshman and sophomore year in high school. Everything was fun the dances, sporting events, school activities, classes, friends, teachers, everything was perfect. Junior and Senior year was just a big d...
