Spring Hill Elementary, home of the Otters, is a public elementary school that serves children in kindergarten through sixth grade living in the Abbott Loop neighborhood. The school feeds into nearby Hanshew Middle School and Service High School. It is located at 9911 Lake Otis Parkway, between O’Malley and Abbott roads. Students who live outside Abbott Loop can apply for admission through a lottery conducted each March and July by the Anchorage School District.
Faculty, staff, parents and students work together to create a learning environment focused not just on academic achievement but on helping students develop self-discipline and interpersonal skills as well as make good, well-thought-out decisions.
Spring Hill Elementary places a strong emphasis on reading skills, with classroom instruction focusing on phonics, vocabulary and comprehension. Spring Hill believes reading is the foundation for life-long learning.
As for extracurriculars, students can join the school’s afterschool running club and cross-country ski programs.
The school has an active PTA that hosts numerous activities to enrich the school experience and foster community. These include popcorn Fridays, a monthly family movie or game night, and fundraisers to support field trips, classroom activities and end-of-year celebrations.
