Ancona has been a gift to our family. My son was in CPS through 4th grade and started at Ancona in the 5th grade. I was worried about him making the transition and being the new kid but Ancona is such a warm and welcoming community he made the transition without missing a beat. The teachers and administration are supportive and we could not be happier to be a part of the Anona family.

Our experience here has been somewhat mixed. Positives: - Incredible specials. They really put a lot into the arts and outdoor learning, the garden is amazing, the library is well stocked and expertly staffed. - Outstanding playground. - Neighborhood feel. Many kids live nearby and walk to school. - Small class size. There are 2 teachers in a class of 15-25 kids. - Montessori preschool worked well for my kid. - Good ratio for school counselor and support specialists Negatives: - Weaker "core" academics in elementary grades. There is some daily reading and writing instruction but math does not happen every day. I haven't seen much "promotion" of reading like you see in other schools - no books sent home, no reading challenges at school or suggestions on home reading. - the school leadership responds defensively to parent feedback. - "social justice" lip service feels empty and hypocritical, given its role as an exclusive private school

The school has been a very welcoming place for my family and especially for my child. It's a wonderful community with a long history of guiding children to become the best versions of themselves.

The teachers meet children where they are and have a sharp eye for their needs, and are ready with a wide variety of strategies to help them thrive.Academically, Ancona leverages is resources to create...

We have been an Ancona family for many years but will be leaving due to the new leadership. The interim head of school has shown a pattern of bullying families including unilateral decisions making, disciplining students unreasonably, dismissing parental concerns, and engaging in passive aggressive...

The teachers and support staff are excellent. The campus is beautiful and conveniently located. However, the administration (particularly the school lead) is failing the community. There is a clear communication breakdown on campus. No one greets the students in the morning and they enter into a bla...

It can be easy to love your school in the best of times, when resources are plentiful, schedules are predictable, and systems are operating from positions of comfort and strength. But what I have come to appreciate throughout this extraordinarily difficult year is how important it is to choose a sch...
