Dicken Elementary School in the Ann Arbor public school district primarily serves kindergarten through fifth grade students from the Greenview Pioneer Nature Area neighborhood.
Located near Dicken Park, the school builds a portion of its learning program and curriculum around outdoor education. Using a natural area and an expanding flower and vegetable garden, students are taught about plants, wildlife, and growing fruits and vegetables. Since 2010, Dicken Elementary School and other elementary schools in the Ann Arbor district have offered full-day kindergarten classes. District students also pick up extra course time as desired through Ann Arbor's virtual class offerings. The district also promotes the STEAM (science, engineering, arts and mathematics) learning approach at all of its elementary schools.
An active parent and teacher organization supports Dicken Elementary School inside and outside the classroom. The group hosts a series of events and fundraisers like auctions, ice cream social and community nights out.
