Pioneer High School, located in the Greenview and Pioneer Nature Area neighborhood, can trace its history back to the mid-1800s. Previously known as The Union School and Ann Arbor High School, the school had several different locations before its current site on West Stadium Boulevard. It is a large public high school, enrolling about 2,000 students in ninth through 12th grades. Students may take Advanced Placement courses, potentially earning college credits. Another advanced learning option is Rising Scholars, a district-wide effort to help students who show lots of academic potential. Pioneer High School offers three separate music departments that allow students to target choir, band and orchestra. Pioneer High School is known throughout Michigan for its powerhouse athletic programs, especially cross country and football. The school offers more than 20 sports teams for students. The school also schedules many special events throughout the year. The popular Picnic Pops has been a musical tradition at the school since the early 1960s. Other events, like the Walk To End Alzheimer's, give students a chance to get involved with community issues and needs.

Overall Pioneer is a very good school. We have lots of APs, and even our non-AP classes can be more difficult and better than other schools regular classes. Our staff (especially our current principal) are great and I can tell they care about us. We have a pretty diverse school being in Ann Arbor, and our school embraces it. I'm glad to have grown up where I did because I got to see people from all over. Pioneer even has a Culture Day where we celebrate all the different people we have at our school.

Pioneer has such a great Selection of clubs I am a part of a lot of them including the Latino student union club I'm representative in this club and I love it so much. Hopefully I will become president next year after the president leaves. One bad experience at Pioneer I have encountered was one time I was borrowing a chrome book. From the book depository and I had to give my AirPods as collateral when I came back they were broken and I immediately told the person working at the book depository and we went to the principals office and they. Didn't do anything but offered me a used dirty AirPod Case and I feel like it should've been handled a lot better than that. Some thing I think we should change is the administration but overall I think Pioneer is a great high school and I'm glad to say I'm a Pioneer.

So far, during my time at pioneer, I have found that it is just not as great as it may seem. It's not a bad school but things aren't very well run, lots of issues with classes and schedules. With clubs, not many are after school so the amount of clubs you can join is very limited since we only get one hour every week to be in them. I find this irritating because I'd like to be involved in other ways because I don't do sports. I want to have lots of extracurriculars so it looks good on my college resume. Other than that it's quite hard to make friends and I honestly don't really feel like all the staff are truly there for me. But this is just my experience

I like this school, though it could use some renovations b/c it looks pretty run down. This is understandable though because it's such an old school. Other than that, the school is pretty good.

The worst experience I could have even imagined. Contact me for more information if you would like. So very disappointed with Pioneer.

Both of my children attended Ann Arbor Pioneer all four years of high school. They both got what they put into their education, which I think is true with any school experience. Neither took AP courses, which I believe are overrated and still received a sound education. There is a lot of opportunity...
