The Rudolf Steiner School of Ann Arbor's Lower School is a private school that provides educational programming for students from kindergarten through eighth grade. The school is in the northern area of the neighborhood on Newport Road, just south of Barton Pond. Faculty proudly use Waldorf education programming, an academic method that is more than 100 years old and employed at schools worldwide. Teachers in lower grades typically advance with their students until fifth grade. It is a unique approach that allows teachers to create stronger connections and appreciation for individual students and how they may learn differently from others. Practical arts and mechanical techniques are used in early education, and computers are introduced in the middle school years, helping students build a more physical connection to learning before they begin having daily screen time. The school actively encourages participation by parents and caregivers in its Parent Council, which plays a vital role in guiding the school's educational programming.

Steiner is a second home to me. The teachers care deeply about students and want to help them succeed in school and in the real world. They take time to work with students one on one academically and emotionally. Students are seen as a whole person rather than a grade point average. The school building itself is beautiful, covered in art of past students and current ones, it is a meaningful tapestry of hard work, care, and learning.

After many years of experience with this school, I strongly advise against recommending it to anyone due to concerns about communication, accountability, and safety.

Our family has been at RSSAA for 12 years now, from kindergarten and into high school. My kids have always been excited to learn and are passionate about subjects in a way that I don't see in other kids their age. The early grades are magical, gradually moving into a more intellectual space, leading...

The experience of our two daughters with RSSAA could not have been any better. Their teachers got to know them as individuals, they were shown empathy and understanding and they really loved going to school every day! While the education is not "traditional" or "standardized" it was excellent. My ki...
