Serving the needs of Atlanta students with dyslexia, the Schenck School is one of Chastain Park's special education centers.
Combining its lesson plans with the Orton-Gillingham approach to phonetic instruction, this kindergarten to sixth grade school works to help students with dyslexia overcome specific challenges. By keeping up consistent work in math, social studies, science, and physical education, the Schenck School helps students transition to mainstream schools.
The school also sponsors a one-on-one tutoring program at no charge to children with reading difficulties. The school also hosts several charitable events that students are encouraged to participate in, including Dyslexia Dash, Founder's Day, BAMfest, and Field Day.
With dual accreditation from Southern Association of Independent Schools and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Schenck School strives to not only give its students the tools with which they can grow beyond their disability but also fit in with their fellow students after leaving the school behind.
