Along Shangri La Drive in north Atlantic Beach, Florida, students are experiencing a unique blend of instruction and hands-on learning. Mayport Coastal Sciences Elementary School (Mayport Elementary) is one of five schools in the relaxed, coastal neighborhood of North Beach. The school's mission is to engage, encourage and educate students through exploration.
Mayport Elementary's Coastal Science program allows students to explore biology, environmental science and meteorology under the safety-focused supervision of staff. Your student may meet inhabitants from the two saltwater tanks in the marine science lab or get an opportunity to release fish raised in the on-site fish hatchery.
Many after-school activities center on conservation, like the Riverkeepers club and sea turtle rescues, but standard clubs like the running club and safety patrol offer many diverse options for student involvement. The Mayport Elementary's communication and social skills program provides students with communication and social skills therapy.
Mayport serves over 500 students but boasts an impressive student-teacher ratio of 13-to-1, better than the district average. Many pre-K to fifth-grade students will continue on next door to the Mayport Coastal Sciences Middle School.
Named after the nearby naval station, the school echoes leadership, excellence and integrity in its guidelines for success.
