GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Nelson County High School has been an overall good experience. Sports and clubs have been a large part of my time at Nelson County. Without sports and clubs to keep me motivated I would not have enjoyed high school as much as I have. The teachers and academics could definitely improve. Some of the best teachers I have ever had in class have been dismissed. I have discussed in depth my desire for my younger sister to attend a different school that will focus on her education and future in furthering her education.

I liked the school overall and the teachers were mostly great, The administration are working to make it like a family. The only thing bad is that many teachers are leaving and we're getting new admin very frequently so trust is lacking.

The superintendent is in way over his head. He consistently every year keeps turning over administrators. Several of our highly tenured teachers are leaving for other school districts because of low morale in the schools. It's time for a new superintendent.
