Creative Montessori School is a private school that enrolls 250 students from 18 months to eighth grade. The two acre campus is located in the heart of Homewood and serves children from 21 neighborhoods throughout the greater Birmingham area.
Creative Montessori School was established in 1968, and according to its website, it was the first school in the Birmingham area to be fully racially integrated from its inception. It was also the first preschool to provide instruction to preschoolers in a foreign language, world geography and science. Creative Montessori offers mixed-age classrooms in which students are individually educated based on their personal and natural learning abilities and processes. In addition to their learn-at-your-own pace academic and developmental program, Creative Montessori offers after-school programs and extracurricular activities such as music lessons, Yoga, tumbling and dance.
This non-profit school strives to offer affordable tuition so that children from any socio-economic background may benefit from its extraordinary educational opportunities.

We have three children at CMS and our experience has been nothing short of fantastic! The administrators and teachers are very attentive, and provide a safe and loving environment for them to learn and grow. Can’t speak highly enough about CMS!

My child has really grown while at CMS. She loves learning, and the school allows her to explore her interests. The facility is beautiful, and my daughter loves to work in her outdoor classroom. Staff is excellent too. Highly recommend.
