The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

In my opinion, Owen high school is unlike many schools in North Carolina. The sense of community found there is extremely unique. Some things that I have found need change are helping students prepare and apply for college, having enough staff to support more advanced classes, as well as low diversity.

Overall, my experience at Owen has been less than satisfactory. Although my opinion may derive from currently being in my senior year, I find the day to day school life to be challenging for all the wrong reasons.

Sorry to say, I have been disappointed by the Administration and several teachers in their flippant attitude toward my child and their needs.

My son gained an excellent education here in an environment that supported his development into a young adult who understands how to show respect, support and empathy toward others and to appreciate differences of opinion and background. There are many extracurricular opportunities for students, and...
