In 1954, a middle school by the name of Toulminville Junior High School opened its doors with 29 classrooms and welcomed students from Grades 3-9. One year later, in honor of Dr. Booker T. Washington, the school’s name was changed to Booker T. Washington Middle School. Today, the public school located at 1961 Andrews Street is home to the Fighting Rams, a robust athletic program of eight sports teams for girls and boys in Grades 6-8. Approximately 370 students attend the school. Though the student-teacher ratio of 23 to 1 is above the national average, it provides students with a range of clubs and organizations to enhance their academic goals, such as the Ambassador Club, Bridge Builders, Pi Society Math and the Yearbook Staff. With a library media programs, students are encouraged to read more and take advantage of technological tools, while its Guidance Counseling Department helps students determine their own unique abilities, goals and skills for success in school and beyond. Booker T. Washington’s students are required to wear uniforms, with colors based on each grade level. The school is near the neighborhoods of Carver, Greenmond and Lyons Park. Approximately 10 bus routes serve the community and school.

My daughter falls in the 2% based on race. Not once did my daughter have problems based on that. The neighborhood is bad but the school is under such great authority. The new principal is on top of things. The counselor is great! I find the staff to be great including custodians there! I'd recommend...
